God’s Truth Revealed by Kathy Howard

God’s Truth Revealed by Kathy Howard is a 12-session Bible study on the basics of Christianity.  Kathy Howard has become one of my favorite  teachers and I greatly enjoyed her past study Before His Throne. To explore her new book God’s Truth Revealed, you can find session one here.

God’s Truth Revealed takes participants on a straightforward journey through the Bible to understand the importance of knowing God, not just knowing about Him. Author Kathy Howard also provides biblical, historical, and scientific evidence to support creation; the reliability of the Bible; and the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. “God’s Truth Revealed” is also full of faith stories – stories about men and women who found faith in Jesus Christ and how their lives were changed. Do you know someone who wants to know more about Jesus? Does your church need resources for spiritual seekers and new Christians? Please take a look at “God’s Truth Revealed”. It could be just what you need.

One thing this bible study answers is “Does Truth Exist?”

The desire to be our own boss and decide truth for ourselves comes from our flawed human nature. But, we can’t wish away absolute truth simply because we may not like it. If an all-powerful, Creator God exists – and there is plenty of evidence, including scientific evidence to support His existence – then He has the absolute right to decide absolute truth. The wonderful thing is we can know this truth and we can know God. God has revealed His truth about life, faith, and eternity to us in the Bible.

If you are looking for a wonderful new bible study, I encourage you to check out Kathy Howard’s God’s Truth Revealed. Later this month I will have a review of it on my book review site, but I can already tell you it is a great study.

Guest Post: No Substitute for Experience by Kathy Howard

kathy-in-chair1-200x300I’ve always believed that the ocean is powerful. But I didn’t respect the ocean like I should until I experienced its power for myself.

Several years ago our family vacationed on Kauai, one of the Hawaiian Islands. One day we rented boogie boards and hit the beach to ride some waves. The first one in the water, I headed out to where the waves were breaking with the board strapped to my wrist.

For boogie boarding, the waves need to be breaking in water about waist deep. By the time I realized the waves were crashing too far out, the water was over my head. So, lying on my stomach on the board, I started kicking and headed for the beach.

It didn’t take long before I noticed that instead of making progress I was actually farther away from the beach. Reality dawned. I was caught in a rip tide. Trying not to panic, I began to swim to shore, dragging the board behind me by its strap. I swam until I was exhausted and swallowing water, but I was even further from the safety of the sand.

I rested on top of the board while I waved and shouted toward the beach. A sunbathing couple noticed and pointed my husband’s attention my direction. By the time Wayne grabbed another boogie board and made his way out to me I had drifted out of the rip tide. Tired and thankful I followed Wayne back to the beach.

Because of my experience in the ocean that day I now have a respect for its power I would not have otherwise. This respect does not keep me from getting in the ocean and enjoying it, but I approach it differently now than I did before.

The same is true with the holiness of God. We know that God is holy. The Bible says He is, so we believe it. But until we experience God’s glory – His holiness manifested – our understanding will be limited. Although our limited human minds can never fully comprehend all God is we can know Him better.

Isaiah experienced God’s holiness. (Read about it in Isaiah 6:1-8.) When Isaiah came face to face with the glory of the Creator, not only did Isaiah understand God better, Isaiah understood himself better. In the light of God’s perfection, Isaiah recognized his own sin. But after he submitted himself to God’s forgiveness and cleansing, Isaiah was prepared to serve God however he called.

Have you ever asked God to reveal Himself to you? To allow you to have a glimpse of His glory? If you do, be prepared to see both God and yourself in a new way.

Kathy Howard is passionate about studying and teaching God’s Word. Currently serving as the Minister of Adult Education at a Baptist church in Midland, Texas, she has been teaching adults the Bible for almost twenty years. Kathy’s love of teaching led her to begin writing Bible study curriculum to meet specific needs among those she teaches. The result was a nine-week study based on the book of Malachi. “Before His Throne” was released by New Hope Publishers in January, 2008.

Kathy’s newest book, God’s Truth Revealed, is a twelve-week Bible study that presents the basic beliefs of Christianity in a way that is engaging, personal, and biblical. Using the Bible as its foundation, God’s Truth Revealed answers questions like “Who is God?” and “Why am I here?” Participants will journey through the Bible to discover the importance of knowing God. This study will be released in March 2010.

A Bible Study That Moved Me to Action

This week slipped away from me so I did not have the opportunity to collect a list of wonderful posts I read throughout the week. So this will be a rambling post instead, I know at least my Mom will read it. ;)

One thing I have not mentioned here is that I am very excited my boys have decided not to play football this next season. I think manly man was a bit sad, while I ran into the laundry room and did a happy dance. We will be concentrating on basketball and soccer this next year. With my youngest entering middle school for the first time, this will be good so he can concentrate on school instead of football practice every night.

Speaking of school, I think I am ready for them to return. I have enjoyed having them home but my house is in constant disarray and food is being consumed in large quantities. My house at times smells like a locker room almost daily because when their friends are over they run outside and play a game of basketball, run back in to cool off and play one video game, eat food, then run back outside. They are all stinky and sweaty. Candle companies, Febreze and plug-in air freshener companies love me.

Mom, this last week consisted of very hot days and then loud storms in the evening. Typical Florida weather. Who would of thought this Arizona girl would end up in a place where it rains so much. ;)

Can I just say how blessed I am by some people? Let me share a story with you, was not planning on it, but this is what has been on my heart lately.

When the Lord blessed me with the wonderful opportunity to head to Dallas for the Christian Book Expo I never dreamed the lasting affects it would have on me. When I arrived at the Expo I had all the classes I wanted to attend planned out. Well on one of those days something did not work out right and as an after thought I went to this session on teaching Bible Study. (I shared about that day here)

It consisted of a panel of four women, Kathy Howard being one of them. I really did not think this was a session for me. Boy was I wrong! By attending that one session I had not planned on attending, God gave me a spiritual mentor and friend in Kathy Howard. We spoke briefly after the session, I introduced myself to her. She is a speaker along with being an author of a wonderful bible study. I am not sure what words came out of my mouth that day, but what I was thinking was…HOW. How do you do what you do? How do get up front and speak with ease? How?

Upon my return home I received the sweetest email from Kathy and she offered to send me the bible study she had written. I will be honest when I first read that it covered the book of Malachi I figured it was going to be a 9 week study on tithing. I rolled my eyes and figured I would see what it was about. Since God was in the middle of this the whole time I am sure he was chuckling knowing how much my spiritual world was going to be changed. Before His Throne: Discovering the Wonder of Intimacy With a Holy God changed me. I studied that book while the whole time asking myself, “Why have I never studied Malachi before?”

I believe in this bible study so much, that I am walking out of my comfort zone and will be teaching it beginning the end of August at my church. Being a book reviewer I read a lot of books, many bible studies, etc… This is the first one that has moved me to action. I want people to learn and experience what God showed me about living a life with a healthy fear of God. If you live your life with a healthy fear of God then you don’t need to fear anything. Anything!

Fear is my thorn, for I fear everything. I am the most insecure girl around, but the perspective of living with a healthy fear of God has helped me take those first steps out of my comfort zone.

Kathy Howard is the real deal. Her friendship and mentoring has been priceless. If you are looking for a wonderful bible study I would encourage you to consider Before His Throne: Discovering the Wonder of Intimacy With a Holy God. And you know what, Kathy did not even know I was writing this post. This is purely from my heart. Kathy thank you for being my prayer warrior and allowing God to use you to write a powerful study of the book of Malachi. Later this year I will be telling you more about her because she has agreed to let me interview her. I can not wait.
