Rook by Steven James

Rook This will be different from all the other books I have reviewed. This has some Christian references but is not a Christian book. This is a suspense-thriller book, it is graphic in some places, and there is definitely good versus evil in this book. That aside..

I liked it.

FBI Agent Patrick Bowers is sent to San Diego California to investigate a series of fires. He brings along his step-daughter Tess in hopes of building a stronger relationship with her after the death of Patrick’s wife and Tess’ mother.

Patrick soon finds out the fires are only a cover up for what is really happening and he finds himself in the midst of intrigue where nothing is what it seems and he learns he can trust no one, not even the people he works with. Patrick stumbles upon the development of a deadly device that could significantly give power to whatever country has it. Bowers is in a race to stop a man that is the definition of evil, while his daughter at the same time finds herself fighting for her life.

This book was a fast paced, first class, thrill book. There were some very graphic scenes in the book so it may not be for everyone. If you are a lover of mystery, crime, and intrigue then this will be a book you can not put down.

This is the second Patrick Bowers book by Steven James, the first one was The Pawn.

Ransomed Dreams by Amy Wallace

Ransomed Dreams by Amy Wallace. This book grabbed me on page one and did not let me go until I was finished with the last page, last sentence, last word. This book was awesome! Oh did I tell you this is her first book? I will be honest, I did not expect much since she is a first time author, but all I have to say is “step aside Dee Henderson”, there has to be room at the top for Amy!!! Amy has grabbed my heart.

Oh you probably want to know a little about the book.

Gracie Lang lives every mother’s nightmare, and Steven Kessler learns how to find his way back to God after walking away. I am not going to give anything way, you have to get the book. But through Gracie you learn how important forgiveness is if you ever plan on moving forward after pain. God commands us to forgive, but some things in life are just unforgivable (at least in our own human eyes), but through Gracie and Steven we learn it is only by the power of Christ that we can forgive ANYTHING.

What I like about this book was they are imperfect people, who lived imperfect lives, and God never let them go. Also, Gracie and Steve displayed real feelings, not the platitude feelings. They showed us it is ok to be angry with God and to show your anger, God can take anything you dish out.

Amy thank you for writing real characters who display real feelings and also showing us the power of God’s grace and mercy. I am going to be anxiously looking forward to more of your books. I think God has a lot planned for you.
