Hope Lives

“As far as men go, it is not what they are that interests me, but what they can become.”
- Jean-Paul Sartre

It was easy for me to get up the day after Election Day filled with sadness. It is easy to feel despair in the way I see our country moving. I am saddened that in some states they are rewriting the definition of marriage, abortion becomes acceptable, and material possessions are seen as a need instead of a want. But I would like to share with you that HOPE LIVES.

I received my first letter from my sponsor child. In her letter she shares she would like to become a doctor. Many kids here in the US say similar things, but she lives in an area where many dare to dream. Someone around her, be it her Mother or her Grandmother, is telling her to look past her surroundings and dream baby! As her sponsor I will try everything in my power to make that dream come true. HOPE LIVES.

I have a family member who is struggling to provide for his family. His only desire is to be able to bring home a paycheck to pay all needed bills. He wants to provide for his children and his wife. And even through the discouragement of not finding the right job and having doors close HOPE LIVES. He knows God will provide, he knows God promises to never leave nor forsake, and he knows God is with him every step of the way.

I have a cousin who has debilitating MS, she is unable to care for herself anymore let alone her daughters. She has two daughters she is very proud of, each of her daughters are smart, athletic, and caring. They have a world in front of them. HOPE LIVES in this mother, even though life has not gone as planned for herself, she has hope in seeing her daughters become great women of God.

It is easy to focus on the negative, to see what is wrong in the world, but just as Jesus looked down below and saw us filthy sinners; it was not the sin he saw, but the good we could become. This life is not easy, but even in the most desolate places you can find that HOPE LIVES. And the secret to keeping that hope alive is knowing Christ.

Come, thou long-expected Jesus,
born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee. – Charles Wesley

  1. Amen! Next time you’re feeling down about the election results, find a Moody Broadcast station. I listened to the election updates on there last night instead of national TV, and I have listened to it on and off all day long. Each time I come away ready to shout instead of ready to cry!

    One of my favorite takes on the day was: “This election was not about the elephant or the donkey, but about The Lamb. Let us cry out to God instead of at each other”

    I’m also thrilled that proposition 8 was passed in California. A minister there talked about the thousands who prayed for 12 hours there this past Saturday and what a huge victory this is considering the state of things in California.

    Hope Lives!
