Brotherly Love

brothers

It is always an adventure packing everyone so you can cram yourself into a car and travel for three days to your destination.  Throw into the mix my middle son wanting to have a sleepover with his two best friends because he is leaving and they are leaving on their own vacations also, so this weekend was it until school begins.  (Not sure what I was thinking to agree to all this, a moment of temporary insanity).  They wanted to stay up ALL NIGHT and not go to bed until 8am, but we set the limit of 1 am.  Not sure what the fascination is on staying up.  Of course manly man stayed up with the boys, I am in bed by 10pm, ha!

I think manly man is becoming worried about how life will be once all the boys move out.  I have been complaining my oldest son has not called home for three days.  Today my husband said, “you know when they move to college they are not going to call Mom every day!” I replied, “I know that honey, that is why we have text messaging.” (right Mom ;) ) My husband just shook his head and I am sure shot up a prayer.  Either way I am ready to have my oldest back with us again.  I think he will be excited to see his brothers after hanging with his grandparents for two weeks. =))

As soon as I wrote the last paragraph my son called.  I can not begin to tell you how blessed my heart is right now.  First I talked to my oldest son and we caught up on the last few days events, then he spoke to my youngest son on the phone.  I sat here listening to their conversation, catching up on basketball, friends, etc.. I could tell my oldest son said that he was looking forward to us arriving because my youngest told his brother how much he missed him.  They both said “I love you” to each other, and when my youngest handed me back the phone he said “here is the phone, he is going to make me start crying.” It was not because my oldest was being sappy, but because they missed each other.

I love these glimpses of what it might be like when they are older.  As a parent you know you will not always be there and hopefully I will die before any of my kids, so my one wish is that my three boys remain close to each other.

After this phone call I sit here smiling, feeling very hopeful.

  1. Lori,
I hear ya!!! Being the mom to 4 boys (and 1 daughter) it is my wish and prayer that their relationship with each other will always be close. It warms this mother's heart to hear her sons tell each other they love them!

  2. What a blessing to here of brotherly love. It is so easy to get caught up in today and all the activities in it, but it is also my hope my boys will keep a strong bond of love as they grow and move on in maturity.

  3. Thank you for sharing this, my sweet friend. I could read your beaming from ear-to-ear in this post :)
I am glad that you will be able to get away – - fill up your cup and make memories with your wonderful family…
