The Search that Left Me Bawling

My boys (aka my two younger boys) misplaced one of their PSP’s (PlayStation Portable). We own two and one of the PSP’s traveled to Minnesota already. They needed to desperately find the other missing PSP so Mom won’t lose her sanity they have entertainment while we drive to Minnesota.  Of course things did not go well when Dad found out one of their more expensive toys was missing and he told them they need to go through everything  in hopes of finding the missing PSP.  Manly man does not want to be stuck in a car when I lose my sanity either, =).  Well the search was on and I needed to do some “Mom cleaning” in their rooms.

I had organized every drawer, minus my youngest son’s drawer. I vacuumed and found things that have been missing for years.  Cleaning under beds is sometimes like walking into a dark cave not knowing what you will find.  Well the rooms were cleaned spotless, but still no PSP.

The next day I remembered I had not organized my youngest son’s top drawer.  The boys had left to go play basketball and I took the drawer and dumped it on the bed.  While organizing I saw this small notepad and written on the cover is “Do Not Read.”  I did what any other snoopy good Mom would have done in that situation, I opened it up!  The words were sweet and there were no deep dark secrets.  As soon as I was about to put the notepad back into place I read the last page and lost my breath.  Written were the words:

message

I sat there on my knees by the bed and sobbed.  That little note slayed me and ruined me for the rest of the day.  I even shared the story with manly man over dinner and I teared up again.

Sometimes the Lord blesses us during our parenting journey in unexpected ways.  I could care less from that moment whether we found that stupid PSP or not.  I think my son will forgive me for snooping and posting this one little note on the world wide web.   But to be on the safe side lets wait to tell him after he becomes a father, I think he will understand.

As we were running out the door Father’s Day Sunday to go swimming my youngest yells “I found it,”  proudly producing the missing PSP.  Where was it located?  The PSP bag.  The place where it was suppose to be and where everyone thought someone else looked.  Sometimes we are not the brightest family on the bock, but during this search I found treasures to store up in my heart.

Perhaps you weren't meant to find the PSP right away... It was a God thing, no doubt. I fully believe that things happen for a reason -- you were meant to find that note. And what a sweet treasure it was! You are obviously great parents when your children express themselves this way when no one is looking.

And the bonus? A clean, spotless room! I know alllllllllllll too well what looking under the boys' bunkbeds is like. Frightening, I tell ya!
