Looking Back

Looking Back

by Lori

This has been a great week and a rough week rolled into one.  My emotions are crashing.  I look forward to resting this weekend and having fun attending a friends wedding shower.  I had a great time speaking to Moms at a MOPS group on Monday, God loves to wow me.  But you know when you stand up and speak about being a mother and you feel the warm fuzzy feelings of motherhood, you then turn around only to be challenged by a child.  So the warm fuzzy feelings quickly faded and I was tempted to place one child outside with a “Free to a Good Home” sign around his neck.  Sigh.. and this to shall pass.

Sometimes you want to pray, “Lord please tell me that it will one day sink in, my child will one day understand, and I will one day look back and say — every challenge and heartache was worth it.”  I do believe that day will come, but the in-between time is what wears a parent down.

God in his mercy knew I needed a day away, so on Thursday a girlfriend and I ran away for the day.  Having girl time for me is too far and in-between so I soak it in like a sponge to water.  It was just what the doctor ordered.

I pray you had a wonderful week, if your week was challenging like mine let me remind you GOD IS FAITHFUL. We don’t see it so much when life is hitting us from all directions, but after the storms calm we often look back and see how God was right there by our side every step of the way.

Praise God for his faithfulness!!

  • Oh how I hear what you are saying! So glad you're able to get away with a girlfriend, too. There are 3 in my life and we get away at least twice a year - usually to bounce ideas around, talk through what's happening to our kids...

And yes - it sinks in and they figure it out. It's all worth it. I could make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up with what I went through with my now-23 year old son. However...well...it's worth it. I wrote about Mother's Day on my blog and it doesn't really paint a great picture but it gives an idea. They do get it, they do catch on and they become just these amazing beings and we wonder how we ever were chosen to be so blessed. I pray God offers enough glimpses of that to strengthen you when all you want to do is pull your hair out. Or their's....
  • You are right, Lori. Sometimes you think that you can't get through raising children (and you have three - one was enough for me). But you get through it. I honestly can say that it was only by the grace of God that Daniel will be 24 next month  ...

I am so thrilled that you were able to run away with a friend...girl-time is very important in a house of all males :)

Loved the post by Jon - I have to book-mark his blog. Thanks for sharing that link.

Have a blessed weekend my friend...
