What My Life Says about My Belief in God

There is one thing God has been hammering me with lately: How I live my life day by day is a testimony of what I believe about God.

Lets say that again:

How I live my life daily is a testimony of what I believe about God.

I use to have a quote up at work that I stared at every day that said: I act out what I believe not what I know. I can say many things in my posts here, I can type 100′s of devotionals for Laced With Grace, and I can stand up and teach bible study, but if my day to day life does not reflect what I say then what does it say about my belief in God.

So many times I have wanted to hide under my covers and tell God he has the wrong girl. I am insecure, I am weak, and there are so many others who are better. I can even give God a list of them. Then I hear the Holy Spirit whisper quietly, “You are going to tell others to follow Christ and seek him with their whole heart, yet when opportunity arises you want to hide.”

I don’t know about you, but that question hurt. I am learning the opportunities God presents are not in areas of expertise, they are often in areas you feel unqualified in. That way when you say yes, you know you are stepping out in faith.

Few things I have learned:

    1. God has to help us let go of our vision in order to release the greater good he has in store for us..(a Richard Foster quote)

    2. God is constantly inviting us to become involved with His work, we just need to have the strength to step out.

    3. Joining God may mean making major adjustments in your life.

    4. You come to know God more through obeying Him.

    5. (This is a quote from my pastor a few weeks ago)“God’s invitation for you to work with Him always leads to a crisis of belief that requires faith and action.

Is God calling you to step out? I will tell you it is not easy, but I also know that HE IS FAITHFUL and he will carry you through. Let me tell you on the other side, it is exhilarating!

  1. Thanks for this, Lori! I remember the quote your pastor said as being part of Experiencing God. I went through that study 2 times and both times something HUGE happened to test my faith – the whole group for that matter.

    Blessings.

  2. Oh Lori, you always seem to hit on a nerve where I don't want to go. I love it though. I find that God is calling me to take the first step and then He supplies the energy, wisdom and guidance that I need. I think of the Indiana Jones movie where he had to cross over to the other side but there was no bridge. But he put his foot out on faith and …then the bridge was visible. I love that part because it's such a great example of faith in action.

You are a beautiful, talented woman of God and …don't you forget it. I've seen you with my own eyes and Lori, I know the Lord will use you as you submit to His plans for you.
    Love you, Debbie

  3. Wow! When I attended She Speaks a few weeks ago, Jennifer Rothschild spoke the sentence that has stuck with me ever since- “The content of our life is our ministry”. Every day since God has reminded me that while I am waiting on Him for the bigger things down the road, I need to give just as much of myself to how I treat the cashier at Walmart, my child's teacher that I disagree with, etc. EVERYTHING we do is a reflection of and on Him. Thank you for reminding me of this again…God obviously wants this point in the forefront of my mind at all times.

  4. Lori,

This SAYS it ALL: “I can say many things in my posts here, I can type 100’s of devotionals for Laced With Grace, and I can stand up and teach bible study, but if my day to day life does not reflect what I say then what does it say about my belief in God.”

Thank you for sharing your heart and a piece of your walk in GOD with us.

    God bless you.

  5. You are so right and this was so timely for me too. God has put something on my husband's heart and mine too and it appears to be where God is working in a lot of hearts. This is very scary, and we are totally stepping out on faith. He has grown our faith thru alot of stretching over the years and it pass time to share that what He has taught. I too did Experiencing God. only it's like He opened the door and I'm standing there, very uncertain as to my part and He is showing me that it's ALL truly of Him. We are going to start discipling new believers, so they don't get lost in the shuffle of a big church or in life. Still not sure how it's going to work, but I am going to rest in Him, now that I have read this post and thru some other things I have seen that are of Him. He is at work and since He brought us to it, He will bring us thru it. Your post was definitely of Him Bless your life and your ministry for Him.

  6. Mary Lou:

Thank you so much for sharing this. The phrase “since He brought us to it,
He will bring us thru it” has been one I have been repeating and relying on.

Praise God, I am excited to hear how God will move in your life!
