Weekend Ramblings

Several things that touched my heart this weekend:

1. Today we were meeting my mother in law at Home Depot to pick up some items for her, and then she had to run into Pier One to purchase something. To begin with my father in law has all my boys calling “Pier One” the “smells bad place”. Meaning it has girly smells in there. So when we went by Pier One so my Mother in law could pick something up. My Mother in law said “I will just be a second…”. My 8 year old looks at me and says “Mom will this be an adult second, or a kid second”. Never hearing this before I said (without laughing) what is the difference honey? He said “well when an adult says it will just be a second, that means over an hour, and a kid ‘second’ is real fast!”. I was trying not to lose it with my laughing. And I said “I believe she means a ‘kid second’ “. I don’t know if I should feel guilty by putting this passage of time in his mind. But anyways it struck me sooo funny!

2. There are so many things, as parents that can take your breath away. I spent going to church today being worn out by my boys back and forth bantering. Granted, they were not being bad, just loud and rattling me…. (you see if I had my way, I would like to have some quiet to get my mind focused on worshiping God but with three boys this is not a reality). Usually I collapse into my pew, and praise God we made it without killing each other =)). This morning, when they were doing the first praise song, and I have to tell you it was a powerful worshiping, praising God song. I looked over to my 12yr old and for the first time in my life have seen him moved to tears while praising God. (that says a lot since we are baptist, ha!) Let me just say as I Mother “I floated the rest of the morning”. Oh how God gives you these jewels to hang on to, when times can get tough as a parent.

  1. What a great weekend!
First, I laughed at the comment your son said about adult second and then I almost cried at you seeing your son cry. What a wonderful thing to see that he is moved in that way.
