We wanted to say thanks to the Hospital personnel in person this Labor Day….

by Lori

What started out as a normal, relaxing Labor Day. As in, this is the first day we have had NOTHING going on and we were relaxing doing nothing. The kids were playing outside, I was catching up on laundry and housekeeping at a leisurely pace and hubby was working around the house. It was a Rockwell moment for sure. That is until my youngest comes walking in my front door wailing with blood dripping EVERYWHERE. The floors, our clothes, etc. It was one of thoes moments where you are not sure where the blood was originating from because there was so much of it, which should clue you in “head wound.” And that it was. I guess he was on his scooter, he tripped and landed right into our car. What was left was a 3″ open gash right on the top of his head. Oh mercy. So off to the hospital manly man and youngest son go. I was very good cleaning the cut while they were getting ready to head to the hospital. As soon as they left…I broke.

But all is good, 9 STAPLES later. No football this week, no game Saturday for him. He will be on the sidelines cheering his team on. He will have everything removed in 7 days. What a day, thank you very much to the hospital Drs. who work on Labor Day.

OH my goodness! I’m glad he’s okay! It is good that he takes it easy this week.

Wow. So glad hes ok now, and home with mom.

Isn’t it amazing how we do so well in the moment, when they need us? then we break.

God love ya friend.

Oh, my!! I don’t know what I’d do — thankfully we haven’t had any stitches or ER moments with our kids. How we had 3 boys and escaped that so far, I don’t know. I don’t know if I’d panic or, like you, be calm and then break up later. I know I’d break up at some point! Glad he’s faring well and hope he recuperates as soon as possible.

Oh my word. That is scary. You sound just like me. I have this ability to turn off the emotion, deal with the emergency, and then afterwards it hits, and hits big. So glad your boy is going to be okay. 7 stitches. Hope he heals quickly and will be back to his regular activities in no time.

My girl did something similar just as we were getting ready to leave for Edmonton, needless to say our trip got postponed a few hours because of the waiting at Emergency. I know the feeling of where is all this blood coming from too……wow, that is so scary. So glad he is ok!

Oh my! We do take good medical care even on weekends for granted don’t we? Hope he takes it easy this week and healing is swift.

We did one of those “bleed all over everywhere” head wounds earlier this summer with our 3 year old…complete with ER trip and stitches (not staples, thank goodness!) I just had a conversation with my kiddoes yesterday about emergency personnel having to work on holidays (hubby is an ER Case Manager and got called in yesterday…they were *not* happy that dad was gone for 5 hours in the midst of the holiday.) My best friend’s son had to go to the ER yesterday with a broken arm, so that was a good opportunity for me to explain to them that we are thankful for other people who work on holidays, and there are people who are thankful Daddy is working, too. :)

Hope he has a quick, uneventful recovery and that Mama gets some time to recuperate today!

Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry that happened. I’m glad he’s going to be okay. I’m the same way. I hold it all together until AFTER the fact and then I’m a bundle of nerves thinking, WHAT IF?

momrn2 September 4, 2007 at 12:45 pm

What a scare!!! Glad to hear he is back home and in a few weeks should be back on track!! WHEW…

I’m so sorry!! How scary!

We just found out referrals are in while I’m reading your blog and we have a girl! We are still waiting on the phone call but the director of the agency emailed me!

I firmly believe that when we were told to “pray without ceasing” God meant that for moms of boys.
Yesterday we moved my son from a dirtbike to a quad thinking it would eliminate the freqeunt crashing. Nope, first he went off an embankment, the only thing saving him was a two foot root sticking up in the middle of nowhere. Then minutes later he nearly went off a bridge. After that I followed behind him praying over every inch of the trail and then there were no more crashes.
I’m glad your son is ok.

I am glad that they were seen on a holiday that quickly. Yes, thank you Lord for doctors and nurses who are willing to work on a holiday weekend.

Head wounds bleed, that’s for sure! One of my boys had to have staples in the head a couple of years ago; we called him Frankenstein!

Jen Jen in Jakarta, Indonesia September 4, 2007 at 11:40 pm

Oh my Goodness, they poor thing.
9 staples…thats allot.
Aren’t Moms good at being able to hold together when necessary and then let it all out.
Please pass on my well wishes to him.

Barb @ A Chelsea Morning September 5, 2007 at 7:49 pm

Oh no. Poor little guy. I’m glad it wasn’t any more serious than this but still, what a way to spend a holiday. And yes, we should remember to thank all the people who are there for us, working away, on a holiday.

Shalee September 6, 2007 at 6:57 am

I’m glad he’s okay. And thankfully, you have insurance to cover these emergencies.

When my boy was one and a half, we had some friends over playing cards and letting the kids play with toys. Their son threw a sippy cup at my son’s head, stunned him and then he fell on the edge of the train table. Blood everywhere from a gash on his hairline. I was calm, I was collected. I wasn’t mad or anything. I just asked the other boy’s mom who was a nurse if my boy needed stitches. SHE proceeded to tell me not to freak out, it was okay and most likely it would heal and not scar. I never understood her reaction. Needless to say, the playing was over, not from our side. I think they were so mortified, they just had to gather their kids and leave. Hmph. And I was winning too.

(Actually, I really was fine. What got to me was when our girl saw the bloody handprint on the wall and started bawling because her brother was hurt… which really is quite ironic because now she would try to give him a bloody nose if she could get away with it.)

Oh wow!

I’m glad he’s alright. What a way to break in a holiday. Poor guy.
