Survived first day of football pratice…

just 20 million more to go.

So what does a mother do when she knows it is the first day of football. Well lets see before practice, I took a shower (there was much rejoicing), realized the “clip in the hair” style I have been wearing is getting real old, so I actually styled my hair (no applause needed thankyou). Then I painted my toe nails, lathered myself in lotions, and dressed in my cute shorts and top. That is what any self respecting football Mom does when she knows she will be outside sweating like a pig among all that testosterone =)) And if you think of me as a girly girl, well I think you hit the nail on the head, hehee.

Actually it was a lot of fun, and my oldest son really impressed his coach. Oldest son has been working his tail off this summer because he wants to “be good” this year. He was like a caged animal yesterday before practice wanting to get out there. He kept saying, “I am going to show Coach C I can do this, or I can do that, or show him how much I have improved, etc…”

Coach C does not give out compliments easily. In fact last night he told the team to many of them are still wearing pampers, time to get your tail in gear and buck up. (that is football terms I guess, ;)

Then the coach walked up to me after practice and said, “he looked really good out there today.” I stood there kind of proud and shocked to hear this from Coach C, and I said, “well he has been working hard to show YOU what he is made of, this year is the first year I see the fire lit; that he really wants it.” Coach C walked away saying, “I’m impressed, I’m impressed…” So it has started off good!!

  2. Ha!! What a great read! Very well written my friend. I must say that I’m glad it’s you and not me.

Congrats to you son on his improvements.

    BLESSINGS!!!

  3. I love this, Laurel. It’s exciting! It brings back memories of sitting in stands practically feeling the pounds drop off as I sweated my guts out. But I always looked girlie too. LOL

Too bad the coach didn’t say those words to him. I hope you repeated them to him.

I know you’re looking at months and months of this, but I think it’s exciting. I truly hope he has a great season and sees the rewards of all his hard work and preparation.

  4. These are the days where, as a mom, I say HOORAY for a son who loves to play the guitar, build RC vehicles and ride on long, competitive cycle races … with his dad.

And a daughter who loves to sew, knit and cook.

    Inside.

However, being the friend I am, I will cheer on your boys through their endeavors- cause I AM a huge football fan … and think of you every time I stick my head in the freezer.

  5. Yay! Sounds like he’s off to a good start with the coach! Maybe all his hard work will continue to pay off for him!

  6. So glad football practice went well!!! I hope he stayes encouraged throughout the season!!! :)
I love keeping up with this -esp. since I no longer work in that environment. I miss the school sometimes!!

  7. Laruel,

You crack me up as always. I wish I could go with you to sit in the stands, watch, cheer and gab.

    Have fun!!

  8. I’m the same with wearing my hair in the same boring clip style every day.

  9. You are hilarious…..I would have loved to see you out there cheering your boys on…I wish we had football out here because my boy would love to play football!
    Blessings

  10. I love your son’s attitude!

I can’t imagine playing any sport in this heat. :P

I’m with Lynn in wishing we could gab in the stands together!

  11. I do not envy you. We are skipping football this year. We needed a break.

Sounds like your son loves it!

I totally understand getting yourself ready for practice. A mama must look her best! lol.

  12. Well, we aren’t old enough for real football yet. However, I must say that the second the LSU Tigers start playing me, Ryan, and the boys are at the games or glued to the tv. It is great!
