Minnesota Day 3

Dear Mom: (Mom to see the pictures better click on them, oh by the way Shalee is a petite little thing. I look so tall next to her. ha)

Today was the perfect weather day, it was not to hot and not to cold. The boys along with Paul, Shalee’s husband, all went fishing today.

As luck would have it Paul caught the biggest fish of the day. We were all excited for him since it was his first time out.

As luck would have it also, my middle son caught something also…his thumb. Grandpa and Paul had to do some quick “surgery” on the boat because he caught the hook on his thumb pretty good. What is amazing is that Grandpa had a “kit” that was made to get the hook out. The “kit” worked like a charm. Grandpa yanked and the hook came out. It bleed pretty good but when you look at his thumb tonight, my bug bites are bigger than his injury. It really was amazing. I am so glad that happened with them and not me, I would have been passed out.

While the boys were out catching fish, Shalee and I went canoeing. Despite my sister in laws comment of “Throw her in it Shalee!” Shalee was very nice and did not tip the canoe. There may have been some threat of not being allowed back if she thew me in, not sure. ;)

It was so peaceful out on the lake and what a blessing to just sit out there and listen to the loons, watch the eagles, and enjoy God’s creation. After we came back from a canoe ride, we went into town with my mother in law. We had a nice lunch and waked around some of the stores in town. After getting some groceries we came back to relax until the boys came back.

Here are some pictures from 4th of July:

Meeting blog friends in real life is a blessing, but I have to admit I was nervous because Shalee was not only meeting me but my husband, all my kids and my in-laws all at once. I can not begin to tell you how awesome it was to find a friend who accepted me and my family for exactly who we are. Many times you will find a couple where the wives get along, but the husbands don’t have much in common (and visa versa). That seems to be more common than not. Well Paul and Shalee accepted us warts, grumpy attitudes, crazy teenage boys and all. I am blessed to now call her an in real life friend.

Paul and Shalee have to head back home tomorrow so tonight we said our goodbyes. Tomorrow hubby plans to take a some of the boys fishing again and I think I will prop my feet up and read a good book.

It was a good day, God has blessed me!!

  1. Oh, how fun. I am so glad that you and Shalee & Paul (and the rest of your family) had such a great time. She is indeed very petite. Shalee looks like a lot of fun. I am thrilled the two of you had such a marvelous time.
Thank you for sharing your vacation with us – the place looks marvelous!!!!

  2. Lori, I love coming along on your summer vacation. Keep the photos coming. How I would be sitting next to you with a good book to read. :)

I’ll have to check out Shalee’s blog. I don’t think I’ve ever visited her but with your endorsement …I definitely will do that.

I pray that you will enjoy this time away. Focus on the beauty of God’s creation, having these special times with your family (the boys will grow up so fast and one day you’ll remember back to these times). Love you Lori and I’ve not forgotten you at all. Life has just been very hard lately but I’m clinging to the Lord.

    Love,
    Debbie

  3. Wonderful pictures!

I had to get a fishhook out of my son’s hand one time….hope I never have to do that again….I was crying as much as he was….

  4. Yay!! My sis canoeing ;) Glad you went willingly instead of Shalee having to throw you in! Love the pics… keep em coming! Oh! and plane tickets are purchased… FL, here we come!! xoxo

  5. Oh my lands… warts and all?! Y’all were the best bunch of people to be with on a secluded island, with nothing but ourselves to entertain us! (The funny thing is that I didn’t worry at all about liking/fitting in with your family. I just KNEW it would be wonderful from the start! That being said, I was worried more for Paul because he didn’t know a soul, and I had the blessing of knowing you and reading quite a bit about your family! God really did bless our socks off, didn’t he?) I too feel absolutely honored to call you a real life friend.

I still love those pics! I may be petite, but you are a vision of beauty, Lori! You looked fabulous even on vacation! So not fair… :)

I can’t wait to do it again! Paul and I talked about the blessing of you all, your boys and in-laws especially included!
