Me and Cheryl Tiegs

I remember while growing up one of the highlights was when the Sears monthly catalog came in the mail. I would grab the catalog from the mailbox even before Mom had a chance to look at it. My ever important question of the month was, “What was Cheryl Tiegs wearing this month?”

Cheryl TiegsAt the ripe old age of around 10 or so, I suddenly wanted my jeans to fit like they fit her, I wanted my sweaters to look exactly the same, and I wanted hair that seemed to flow no matter what she was doing. I would carefully turn each catalog page wondering what outfit I could ask my Mom for? Also I remember the smell of the brand new catalog with pages sticking together. Mom never bought the outfits I requested, but that did not stop me from dreaming. Struggling with the problem of the outfits being a bit to revealing for a young 10 year old I had to pick some of Cheryl’s more conservative outfits. During the winter I wanted to know what my sweaters should look like, in Spring I wanted to see what type of Easter dress I should ask for, but my favorite season was summer. During the summer time Cheryl modeled the current year’s bathing suits. I would carefully pour over each suit wondering which one would make me look like her, which one Mom would approve of, and which one Dad would ok (umm for some reason at 10 yrs old I never got Dad’s ok on any of Cheryl Tiegs bathing suits). I don’t see why? (snicker)

Then I got these brown leather boots that I wore all the time. With my leg pants tucked in, I felt stylish and grown up. I felt like I was looking more like Cheryl Tiegs where she posed next to a horse modeling her latest outfit.  Granted my jeans did not fit exactly like Cheryl’s but I knew it was only a matter of time.

Yes my parents did have their hands full with a girl who wanted to be grown up. It was around this time I met a boy who would be my forever love or at least “forever until college” until I met manly man.

Whooooweee my parents raised a girl who kept her head up in the clouds.  Mom/Dad you did a great job and thank you for not allowing me to purchase any of the Cheryl Tiegs bathing suits I wanted.  Heck I even had a hard time finding a picture I could post on my family friendly blog even today. ha!

What?? You don’t think I looked like Cheryl Tiegs? Don’t tell that young girl, she just may be crushed. ;)

  2. You were way more stylish than I was at that age! I remember the catalog days – my favorite was the Sears Wish Book, the big one that came out before the holidays. LOVE the picture of you with the boots. At least Cheryl Tiegs was a bit more stable than some young Hollywood women these days.

  3. Ohmigosh – I could NOT tell the difference b/w you!! ;-) We all had those “idols” didn't we? Love it and you!

  4. I totally remember Cheryl Tiegs. She was so beautiful and had that “all American girl” charm. When I think about the different people I immulated it makes me laugh. I remember wanting Farah Fawcett's hairdo and getting awful haircuts by well-meaning ladies trying to capture “the look.” It took me years to realize that no one I'd met did a successful job of capturing “the look.” We women sure love chasing the dream when we're young girls. Youth…

  5. You looked great! Especially the boots! I remember Cheryl and loved her fashions also, although, thankfully not allowed to purchase any! Thanks for sharing today.

  6. I loved Cheryl Tiegs too! And I even remember the Sears catalog. I used to dog ear all the pages I liked, but my mom didn't pay attention. I was just dreaming. I LOVE that photo of the little girl. Is that you??? Adorable!

  7. I so remember those catalogs with Cheryl Tiegs. To funny. I think you look adorable.
