My Goal for 2011

My friend Iris asked me the other day what my verse was for 2011. I quickly shot off a reply saying “I don’t have one.” What I really wanted to say is my verse is “Hanging on for survival.” Unfortunately I could not find that passage, ha! Well it is funny how the Lord works, because all day that day the Lord kept bringing me back to this passage, especially the areas I bolded. .

[23] “All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. [24] Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. …….
[31] So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. [32] Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, [33] just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.
(1 Corinthians 10:23-33 ESV)

Paul wants the Corinthians to act toward others in a way that will not inhibit the advancement of the gospel. Every aspect of a Christian’s life has the potential to honor God.

I want all that I do, all that I face, whatever challenges come my way, when ever God changes direction, when things don’t go my way, when I am hurt, upset, joyful, excited, happy… I want it all to honor God.

PS – I write this as a post for the pure fact that I may have to come back to it time and time again to remind myself. ;)

How about you?  Do you have a verse/goal/something God is speaking to you in 2011?

Christmas Destruction

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays. Often when we think of Christmas we associate it with the feelings of joy, peace and goodwill. Joy because the Savior has come, peace because He is the Prince of Peace and goodwill because Christ instills us with the attitude of benevolence towards others.

These are all good things—important things—but there was only one thing on God’s mind when He sent His son….. (CLICK HERE TO READ THE REST)

Only You Can Save

This song and lyrics really speak to me. So many times we may not “feel” like doing good, or “feel” like loving, or “feel” like giving (especially in this economy) but then we remember what Jesus did for US. We then in return develop our desire to love, give, and reach out because of how much was done for us.

As a side question, have you made a shoebox yet? Now is the time. Here is a great link for how to make a shoebox on a budget.

I saw a man today, his whole world across his back

A living monument opposed to my success

I tried to look into his eyes as his shuffled past my car

Sweat beading on his skin, his clothes and hair a mess

As the light turned green and I pulled away, he slowly disappeared

Just a memory of another chance I failed to show your love here

I wanna love because You love

I wanna give because You gave

I wanna reach my hand out to the lost

because I know Your hand can save

Only You can save

Only You can save

Sometimes I have to wonder if I really want to know

The struggle and the pain that others feel

Do I want to hear the stories I see echoed in their eyes

Or is this love I say that I’m reflecting even real

As the light turns on inside my head and I slowly disappear

I steel myself cuz what you call for me is to show your love here…

I wanna love because You love

I wanna give because You gave

I wanna reach my hand out to the lost

because I know Your hand can save

Only You can save

Only You can save

(Save) Let me be Your hands

(Only You can save) Let me be your eyes

(Only you can save) Help me understand

(Only you can save)

That I’m Your hands and feet hidden behind this frail human disguise

I wanna love because You love

I wanna give because You gave

I wanna reach my hand out to the lost

because I know Your hand will save

Cuz only You can save

Cuz only You can save

Cuz only You can save
