Finished

John 19

28 Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.”

29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips.

30 When he had received the drink,

Jesus said, “It is finished.”

With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

From Hosanna to Crucify…or Was It?

I have been linking to this post for the past three years. In almost every pulpit it is taught that the same crowd who welcomed Christ on Palm Sunday and laid the palms down for him was the same crowd to yell CRUCIFY less than one week later. I do not believe that to be true, yes we are fickle people and Christ came to die for every one of us sinners. But I don’t hold the belief it was the same crowd.

As stated by Ensor: “The crowd was not fickle. And did not praise him one day and cry out for his murder another.”

Please head on over to read The Crowd Was NOT Fickle! by John Ensor (via Challies). If you read it last year, I encourage you to read it again. It is one of the most powerful posts I have ever read (hence why I link to it every Easter).
